I COMPLETELY agree with aquakai, except I do bigger water changes. Petsmart, from what I understand typically uses the strips. While you are cycling you will need to test your water frequently. If you stick with a fish LESS cycle it won't be as important but if you do a fish IN cycle it is extremely important to test your water daily. I have a 10g tank that has been fish IN cycling for a month, every day the ammonia has been .25 or slightly less, this past Sunday I tested the water .5 - 1 of ammonia & I had done a 50% water change on Saturday. I do at least a 50% water change weekly on my 10g established tank. The two tanks I have fish IN cycling are averaging 50% water changes every couple of days, sometimes more depending on my water test results. If you don't test your water frequently, regardless of fish LESS or fish IN, you won't know if your tank is cycling properly or when it has completed the cycling process. Just my thoughts and experience.
