Along with the aquarium salt treatment, I also put appropriate amounts of Betta Fix into the water, which smells go good. mmmm. The PetSmart by me has a complete Betta section, perhaps yours does as well. Sorry about the poor fishy and best of luck in the future.

Never use betta-fix, it damages their labyrinth organ and often kills them.
I found this online. But I guess better to be safe than sorry......

Bettafix is watered down melafix.
Melafix is tee tree oil (melacula oil), an antiseptic.
Melafix does not and cannot:
CURE fin rot
CURE columnaris
CURE anything, really.
It CAN, however:
Keep fins and wounds clean, since its an antiseptic.
Helps heal injuries a bit faster.
It can damage their labrynth organ, IMO.
There's another reason its so widely warned about, too-
Overdose.
That, and only that, really, is the biggest issue with melafix .
But see, I didnt say Bettafix.
Because its not an issue with bettafix. Betta fix, though still potentially damaging, cant really be overdosed unless you went NUTS on it, and put an ungodly amount in.
Its watered down to a very large degree.
The reason so many people freak out about bettafix is because of its relation to melafix and the issues an overdose can cause-- and OD on melafix is pretty easy, you need to be careful.
If you ever use melafix, use no more than 1/4 the dose recommended.
Bettafix can be used probably at normal dose, but if you really feel the need to use it, under dose it a bit for good measure.
In general, betta fix and melafix arent worth it. Just use AQ salt!
WHAAAAAAT, then why the he__ do they sell it? that's crazy
To be honest idk, if I had to guess I'd say it will
Help with the things it claims to treat but it just creates an entirely different problem... I believe mela-fix does the same thing too.
thought i would add this: tea tree oil is toxic to humans as well. my dad is a pediatrician, one of his patients (a baby) now has liver failure because his mother used tea tree oil as a moisturizer on his skin
Oh thats okay. Sorry if I offended you. I'm just not really for corporate pet stores so I don't normally buy animals from there. But I don't mean to offend anyone who does normally buy from there. Its a personal preference. I'm a bit of a hypocrite for buying from there occasionally, so its not like I'd have room to talk anyway.
Oh, haha, no, I just wanted to make sure I didn't offend YOU. :)

What is the labyrinth organ?
