I currently have a healthy happy little boy, I thought he was a halfmoon betta but I've been told he's a rosetail betta.. or something. I bought him because he's purple and a betta.. xD
I'm a college student with little space for a tank, and a RA who isn't fond that I have a fish in the first place.
Tank right now:
(minus the aligator head. Swapped it out for a smaller yellow hidey hole for a while)

-1 gallon
-heater
-day/night lights
-weekly(or more) water changes
-thermometer
WELL, YOU SEE.. I want another Betta. They're addicting and I love them.

The problem is I'd need to have them in ONE tank as to save space. I've seen those horrible tanks that just put a divider in the middle of a 1gallon and it seems so cruel. I've found a few 2.5 gallon tanks with dividers that have a built in filtration system... but I'm not too sure if that's a smart idea. I know 1 gallon is small for 1 betta, but I've had friends who have bettas in the tiny horrible tanks from like petsmart... Their fish live years and years in small spaces. So I feel like it wouldn't be horrible?
TL;DR
Just looking for some general tank opinions.
ONE tank is ideal for two bettas (current one + new one I'd get). Just a non-horrible way to do that is the problem.. Thanks for any help.
P.S. Is he a rosetail betta? More pix for evidence. Ignore the tail biting, he's been bad lately. ):
