Snails will clean up the algae really nice! But keep in mind, snails poop quite a bit, but I have white gravel and I very rarely see the poo on the surface of the gravel, usually it buries underneath and goes unnoticed until you siphon.
Also when no algae is present, the snail will need to be separated for awhile & fed algae wafers/zucchini/cucumber.. I reccomend nerite snails because they can't successfully reproduce in fresh water (they make eggs but the eggs won't hatch)
Lessening the amount of time your tank light is on will help as well.
