Red face Hi, I'm new!

Hi fellow betta keepers! I'm new here. I just got my second betta (R.I.P Ronnie) and his name is Happy (nicknamed Buddy) because he makes me happy. He is a gorgeous red and purple half moon double tail- I'm in love already! When I went to Petsmart to pick out a new betta, this one peered at me through his cup with his puppy dog eyes (or should I say - fry fish eyes! lol) and I knew I had to get him. He is happy in his new filtered 5g! Though, I am not able to provide him with a filter at the time, will he be fine without one until I can get him one?I'm glad I found this site, and I'm sure Happy is to!

Welcome to the forum! He should be fine without the filter (only my baby tank had a filter). Bettas have a labyrinth organ which allows them to breathe air, so you don't really need a filter for him. Just a heads up with your 5 gallon tank (unfiltered) you should be doing a 50% and a 100% (or near too) every week. Once you get the filter you can drop down to two 50% water changes every week with a near 100% change every other week.

I do look forward to seeing this guy, he sounds gorgeous!

Hi, welcome to the forum! I have five bettas, and only one tank has a filter. As Ivandert said, just keep the water clean. Glad you joined us all here!

Whoops, I meant he didn't have a heater. He does have a filter.

Welcome! You should get a heater soon but I am keeping a betta in an unheated tank right now and he is doing fine, just make sure to add warm water every once in a while, but not enough to make him go into shock!

I am also new! I just got my first betta fish yesterday and he is a red and blue half moon betta fish. I have him in a 1 1/2 gallon bowl and with a plastic block with plastic plants on top. I also have a tan gravel that glows in the water and it is making the water murky. Soon I am getting marbles and a 2 gallon bowl. :P
