Help ID my Betta

Yesterday I went to the fish shop to buy a betta and there was a bunch of females that all looked the same. I'd never seen them before and i thought that they where pretty cool so I got one. When I got home I did some research and at first I thought the lines where stress marks. Doing some more research I started to find more species of betta that looked like her, for example the betta picta and the bett falx. But I also found some betta splendeds that looked like her. I came to the conclusion that she was a 'wild type' betta, so she had not been bred to look fancy. Can someone please confirm this, i really want to know now :)

looks like a female VT :)

She could be a wild-type, but could just be so stressed, that her pigment isn't showing completely. Only time will tell XD

ok cool thanks, would she be able to be bred with my male veil tail. And as she gets older and her colours come out how will i be able to tell if she is a wild or not? Also do you have any idea what species of betta she is?

She should be able to breed but you never know. I personally don't know, I swear my Female Crown Tail looks like every other Female betta on the face of this planet.

But is she a Betta splendens or not? cause my male is and i dont want to cross species. It's just I've seen species such as betta picta, and the females look similar.

Looking at your picture, I have a feeling it may be a Picta but, it could still also be a young female betta. If her colour starts to improve or her stripes start to show less, then it could be a female betta splenden or a male betta Picta. LOL

IMO she seems like a young female splenden unless you know its age.

Note: Check your bettas ventral fins, if they are short like Pictas are, more of a chance she is one.

I have a female Betta who looks almost exactly like yours when she's stressed otherwise she's a deep blue/purple. She'll change color right before your eyes, it takes seconds. I'd give her a few days & see what happens when she's settled in.

It could be a Picta, but you won't know until her colors come out. Also, IMHO, you should never breed pet-store bettas(if thats where you got her from) to each other because all it gives you are weak finnage, poor coloration and bad genes.

Thanks for the comments, I've only had her for two days and her fins are getting really colorful but her body is staying the same. So MyRainbowBettaFish, you think i shouldn't breed her then, the only problem is that i cant get fish sent to me because i hate the idea of a fish being in a plastic bag without food or a filter for a couple of days, and what if im not home when they arrive? idk im just to worried to buy online. :/ I'll post pics of her by the day if you guys want them?
