Possible slime coat shedding?

Alright, welll, my last thread was titled ich treatment and the convo now has nothing to do with ich so I figured I should start a new one lol

It was suggested in the last thread that it's possible my betta might be shedding her slime coat. She's had white stringy stuff hanging off of her for about a week. It's not cottony or anything, I don't believe. It was hanging off her tail, pectoral fins, pelvic fins, and dorsal fin. Now there is just a little bit on her pelvic fins, but that's where it started and ever since the rest has gone away, the pelvic fins haven't gotten much better. Her behavior isn't changing at all, except that I don't see her flare quite as much, but that could be that she's completely comfortable with her environment now (got her about a month ago). She isn't gasping or darting or scratching or anything. I started salt treatment about 3 days ago just in case it was a fungal infection.

Opinions? Advice? Suggestions? thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum..Yes it sounds like her slime coat is shedding. Does your water conditioner have anything in it to p rovides or protect the slime coat ? Most do I think so check your bottle. Is it AQ salt your using to treat her with ? Remember you can only use it for 10 days and any longer can cause more harm then good. I really think the only thing you might want to treat her with at this time is some Stress Coat till she gets her slime coat back. I am sure others who know more then me will come along with some more ideas.

It's called Splendid Betta Complete Water Conditioner. It doesn't say anything on the bottle about protecting the slime coat so I'm not entirely sure. It isn't AQ salt, but I did some research and learned as long as it's non-iodized and there aren't any additives or anything like that than it's okay for a short period of time. I compared my salt to AQ salt as well and it is pretty much the same thing. If it's not a fungal infection, than I'll stop with the salt anyway. Is this Stress Coat a medication? Is it common in PetCo? That's the only pet store near me.

Thanks! It's a relief it's just her slime coat, I was feeling helpless because I was thinking it was an infection or possibly something worse and it hadn't been getting any better.
