Oh I am also sorry to hear about the tail biting. When my DT did that I was soooo MAD!!! Put him in a time out hahah!

Salt will do for its recovery though some medicine like general aid will do that's for medicine.

I recommend API Stress Coat, will help him with stress and does wonders for tail and scale regrowth. Warm warm warm clean water an aquarium salt!!

It doesn't look like tail biting to me. Just like he's clamped up a bit.

What's your tank's temperature. 78-80 is ideal. Also, what's your water change schedule? It might be ammonia build up. Some bettas are more sensitive than others.
