Question Bettas and Lids

Do betta fish tanks need lids? Today, I bought a 2.5 Gallon aquarium tank, but it did not come with a lid. I'm worried my little guy might jump out once I put him in the tank, but I decided to get your opinions before I go out and buy one, or build a screen to cover the top.

Yep. They're known for jumping.

My sorority tank is an open top tank and is often filled to the black trim. however some bettas do jump, I have been lucky and have only had bettas jump out during feeding, it is rare though.

A cheaper option than buying a glass top or an actual hood is to just use craft mesh and cut to size, that way you have the size and shape you want and it is cheap and easy to do. i t also lets air in which bettas need.

Don't Fill it 100% just do 75% to prevent him/her from jumping.

Yes get one or make one and until you do you could lower the water level by a few inches, be very careful Bettas are known jumpers !

I'd get one as well. You never know when they'll jump. My betta has never jumped in the many months I have had him, but randomly decided to one day through a circular hole with maybe a 2-3 inch diameter. Luckily I was right there.

I've had jumpers before. Never lost one that way, tho. But from now on every single betta tank I have will have a lid with minimal openings.
