I purchased a small piece of drift wood ,the kid in the pet store said to just soak it for 3 days he mentioned something about the ph .I tried to find some info online and i read somewhere to make sure that it is meant for fish and not reptiles or there might be chemicals added that could kill my fish. I bought this from a small shop i did tell him that i would be using it with a betta fish so i guess it is the right one.what do i need to do to get this ready for my tank , is what he said to just soak it for 3 days good enough
That's a nice piece of drift. What tank are you planning to use this in? I can see your betta possibly using the top of it as a shortcut to the surface. I just revived some of my old pieces of driftwood I had in storage for my betta.
Some wood takes longer to soak, but 3 days might work, you'll just have to put it in some water and wait. If it turns the water a little brown that's fine, it's good for the fish. And if it doesn't sink right away, you can tie or glue it to a rock to anchor it.
Thanks Msg i will keep an eye on it for now. it's been in a gallon container for a couple of hours now,the water seems to have a light tint like a tea color .I think i will put in old pot tomorrow and throw it on the grill outside,is there a specific way to do this, should the water boil first then add the wood and for how long .
