It's usually 1-3 teaspoons per gallon so give it 1-1 1/2 teaspoons. You're going to need to maximize the salt intake. I'm sorry. :/

Wonderful! I'll keep my fingers crossed for him (metaphorically speaking of course... otherwise I couldn't type)!!

I'm so sorry, but you cant cure dropsy. It is caused by kidney failure (one of my bettas has it right now) and they wont live. Adding salt can help prolong there life, but sometimes it is more humane to euthanize. Take him out of the continener, it will stress him, I never lowered the water for the fish with dropsy I had, because a) they died before I could or b) were goldfish and didnt need to breathe from the surface. Change the water often (I dont know your tank size) to try to prolong his life.
And great job on keeping him this long!! I feel pathetic now (in a good way :) )

:( I would take him out of the container, but with his condition now, I think that would stress him more then it did when I put him in

My betta had dropsy just a week or two ago and I treated him with Kanaplex and now he is almost entirely back to normal, the pineconing is gone, his appetite is back and the majority of his lethargy is gone.

I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully he will pull through.
