Unhappy !!!!help needed!!!!

G'day guys,
im new to the Betta scene but have recently been bitten by the Betta bug
Initially i rescued 2 Betta's from my local pet shop, after originally purchasing 2 Aqua One Bettabloc's http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AQUA-ONE-...#ht_500wt_1414 i started reading your forum & realised they needed more room so i purchased two 9L tank set ups designed for Betta fish.
they came with heater, gravel & a 75L/h filter.
today i came home from work to find 1 of my Betta's dead.
after doing some more research i am wondering if my filter is too strong & if so how can i slow the flow????
any advice would be greatly appreciated
cheers,
deano

Best and easiest way is to fasten filter foam at the outlet and, especially, at the intake.

Cheers Hallyx,
i just pulled the pulled the filter apart, the impeller had 3 fins so i removed 1 then 2 fins & now the flow is still there but very gentle, hopefully Bruce will rest up overnight & be much happier in the morning.

My filter's intake was too strong, so I got some Fluval pre-filter sponges. They slide right onto the end of my intake tube!

Sorry for your loss. Hope Bruce will enjoy a slower flow!

What a clever engineering solution. Good on ya.

Hopefully your last impeller won't break.

I wouldn't have done that to the impeller. I would have just stuffed some foam like hally recommended.

When you start breaking pieces off the filter, there's no going back.

Inserts/plastic baffles can be removed later on.

Gees. I thought a aqua bettablock was a weekend betta feeding block.

thanks for your reply MSG,
After Dragon did not survive i did not want to chance anything with Bruce & worse case scenario i can always replace the impeller later on.
personally i think the betta bloc's are only a small improvement from the containers that the pet shops sell the fish in.
cheers

Well i don't know what i am doing wrong?
after coming home from work today i notice that Bruce is no longer with us.
i am not happy at all considering these tanks are marketed specifically for Betta's
i am now wondering if i should try again or not.

Reviewing fundamentals: Temp~80*F/26*C, conditioner/dechlorinator, Ammonia check>0.25ppm, ideally 0.0ppm.

Never realized how short that list was.

Blame me for not mentioning that a filter is not necessary for a tank that size. I usually do. Sorry.

Check with your municipal water authority and get an analysis/report on your water.
