Marble, Glass Craft Stones...

Those marble type, glass craft stones you can get at some bargain stores, or at walmarts and such in the craft sections, are those safe to put in the tank instead of gravel?

Thanks :)

My tank broke so I need a new one and those would look good in a new tank instead of the gravel lol

I have those in my 5 gallon tank for about 3 months now and they are super. I love how the blue+clear+green ones I have give Sparkle's tank a clean/sparkley look.

Just be careful to wash them in hot water (no soap) before you use them AND make sure none of them have sharp edges (broken/chipped ones).

BTW....if you use a siphon vacuum ... they can be a little bit of a pain. The get pulled up into the siphon and you have to 'bend' the hose to make them fall out. I do find it easy to see waste products (lol) in the bottom with this type of substrate.

I've used those in various tank sizes. I like them the best for smaller uncycled bowls or tanks that get frequent 100% changes as they are super easy to dump out and clean. I found them a pain in my 10 gallon sorority because the spaces between the stones are so large that all the solid waste would fall right through to the floor of the tank and it was much harder to vacuum up.

Keep an eye out for chips in the stones!

Definitely safe though :)

they are fine for your fish, wont hurt them or anything, i have them in some of my smaller tanks instead of gravel, just know that you cannot cycle a tank that uses these glass pebbles instead of gravel, as beneficial bacteria wont grow on it

I found the regular stones that look like river rocks at my local "Dollar Tree" store, and just washed them well...I love them in my tanks, easy to keep clean IMO.
