2.5 gallon

Is a 2.5 gallon tank too small to give my betta a friend?

Yes unless its ghost shrimp, which will most likely become snacks. You could give your betta a moss ball as a friend.

I have moss balls in the bettas I have in that size tank, they love them :) One of them likes to push it around with his nose when he's bored. It's pretty cute

Agreed, shrimp or nerite snail.

Personally I have 2 nerites snails with my betta in a 10 gal, and the snails poop A LOT. its quite annoying. And I have to remove the snails to feed them otherwise my betta will eat all their food.
