Potential Fin Rot, Possibly Tail biting?

Hi, my name is meaghan! I am new to the betta world, my betta King Caidyn has had a chunk missing from his back tail the past 3 days, and each day it gets worse. The first day, his tail was perfect, it was spread and long. And now, it has a that chunk missing, I'm not sure if it is fin rot or tail biting. But it worries me It is very uneven, and it is getting closer and closer to his body.
At the moment I keep him in a .33 gallon tank(I got him last wednesday8/8/12, my sister brought him home&was going to flush him so i had to figure something out), today I bought a 1.1 gallon tank, and plan on moving him into it soon. Yesterday I started him on aquarium salt. My 2 questions are, do you think it is fin rot or do you think it is tail rot? I am going to continue the aquarium salt for a few days, should I continue it in the .33 gallon tank, or move him to the 1.1 gallon tank and continue the salt in there?

it looks like tailbiting. which is probably caused by him being in the .3 gallon tank. he should stop when you move him to the 1.1 gallon, which is still pretty small, but big enough to make him stop. dont forget to put a heater in the tank to help him heal, warm water will help boost his immune system so it dosent get infected. move him to the 1.1 gallon asap and you can continue aq salt treatment in there

Okay, thank you! That's kinda what I was thinking. I will move him tomorrow into the 1.1 gallon as soon as I get home from work. &then in the next few weeks I plan on getting a 3.5 gallon but I'm not sure about a filter&whst not so I will have to look into that before I buy that. But anyways, thanks!

no problem! message me if you need anything else, just try to get a heater as soon as you can, i would recommend putting a filter until he has healed mostly

Is the end of his tail black?...where the newest part is missing...

It's not black, it's kind of white-ish around the peices missing.

the whiteness usually means its growing back :)

Yep...white/clear is new growth!
