Question What is on my betta's flipper?

My betta has something black on his flipper. At first I thought was just something stuck on it, but it has been there for a while now. Its not a spot. Looks like a build up of something. He swims well. No problems noticed so far other than that thing is maybe getting bigger..? I tried really hard to get a picture but I could not get one that showed his flipper that well. Any ideas as to what this thing is? Is it harmful?

I would say its harmful. Thats just me. It sounds a bit fishy. Maybe go to a website with a list of fish diseases and symptoms.

i haven't heard of a black growth on a fin...I'm asusming when you say flipper you mean the pectoral fins?

As for the growth, what does it look like? Is it simply a spot on the fin, or is it actually coming off of the fin?

did some more research (I am talking about the pectoral fin) didn't know the correct term. Anyway, I found one other post on another forum from someone with the same thing. Other people replied thinking it was just the fin repairing itself. May be an injury or something, but nothing serious. The pictures were similar, only the black on that person's betta was bigger.

I hope all is well. If anyone has any ideas please help me out. I am still worried.

honestly I sat in front of my tank for 30 minutes yesterday trying to get a picture.

Just found this on the forum:

Mine is similar to what that betta has in the pictures but about half the size.

Really hoping so. It has been there for a while now. I am doing plenty of water changes to keep the water nice and clean.
