Okay, then it probably was just ammonia poisoning :) Make sure to keep the water clean and you will probably never have the problem again. For a 3 gallon filtered tank a 50%-100% water change once a week should suffice, I'd recommend more but it's best not to do it too often while the betta is still weak, otherwise the stress can cause more diseases.
