Heavier Breathing?

I had a betta in a 10 gallon tank, in about 4 gallons of water, with manual water changes. The tank broke, so I had to go buy another tank, and I got a 1 gallon tank because it's all I have room for when I move in a couple weeks.

I acclimated him, the water is all fine, but today I went to look at him, and he was at the bottom by the plant, and seemed to be breathing rather heavy. His gills are puffing out like his is gasping for air type thing....

I'm not sure what to do or what it could be. Any suggestions. Nothing has changed except the tank, and I have glass gem stones on the bottom instead of the gravel because it was old and gross.

Also, he came up for food like normal, swam around a bit, but then went back to the plant at the bottom.

What are the water parameters? Maybe there's some ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate in your tap water.

New water change yesterday. Same water as was used as always which he has been fine. They are good and the same as before.

Hm... Lebron was like that the day before yesterday. He's fine now. But he does seem to have a defective gill/labyrinth. :/ If there's nothing wrong with the parameters, I say he might just be resting. Is there any odd coloration on the gills or around it?

Nope. Nothing else has changed. What I am thinking may have happened is.. The stupid cover blocked out all the air (or so I think) since this morning... So Im not sure how much air went in the top of the tank for him. I don't know if this is the reason or if maybe he is just adjusting to his new home.

I will keep observations on him though to make sure nothing else changes. It had me a bit concerned though.
