The 'Community' Betta

I had to remove Nimbus from the breeders' net in my sorority as he kept escaping and one of my females was always sneaking in. Since he is very placid, I decided to put him down into my community tank and he is doing great.

His tankmates are daisy's rice fish, microrasbora kubotai, pseudomugil tenellus, mellis and gertrudae, as well as some MacCulloch's rainbowfish and a killifish juvenile. Tank is 18x18x18 inches with quite strong filtration.

I also took two shots of my brand new CT female 'Inky' in her new home I just set-up then. However, she was much too busy exploring to pay much mind to me!

Thanks. I'm hoping to cross Inky with the male in my display picture and work on creating a fancy HMPKCT line since all my really nice females are either never in the mood or getting too old to spawn now.

i think a HMPKCT would just be a HSPK, or Halfsun Plakat. as to the OP, careful keeping a non-plakat betta in a community tank, faster fish can swipe all of his food, and might be a fin nip danger.

I know I won't see any full CTs in the first generation, but this is why I would be working on getting CT finnage into future generations.

I feed my male separately so he has no problems with missing out on his food. He is usually busy pushing everyone else out of the way so he can eat theirs as well.

Also none of the fish in there are very big nippers. Really the only squabbling or picking that goes on is between my blue-eyes species. They are not game enough to get too close to Nimbus.

Yes! I admit it. I am stalking your picture threads.

Gosh that female is a cutie pie! I think she and Nimbus will produce some very pretty offspring. Of course, I shall want pictures.

Nah it's not Nimbus I am breeding her with. It will be to the little HMPK male in my avatar.

Nimbus is the pussiest betta I own. He lived in a breeders' net in my sorority, and in the whole time never built one single bubble nest or showed any interest in socialising with the females. I had to move him as this one female (one of the wedgwood sisters) kept getting into his breeders' net and stealing his food. I thought it was only a matter of time before he got munched on haha. I think the only reason he didn't is because he never acted aggressively towards them.

And it's okay to stalk my photo threads. I like that people read them.

If you ever want to borrow Aang as a DT fill-in for Nimbus, let us know! His nests are about two inches high and he's clearly a manly man despite his Mardis Gras appearance, ha.

I do like your Clownie fish a lot - what sort of colouring/fins would you expect from him x the little CT girl?

I'm really hoping to see some Wedgewood offspring too.

PS: I -will- get round to coming over for some worm cultures but we're mad busy househunting & packing, so the worms may have to wait til after we move.

Love the female! She is so cute, I would love to see some of the fry. I have been looking for some HMPKCT's, I'll be looking forward to seeing future posts from you :)
