An older man was in the fish aisle when I was and because no one was around to help a lady that was frantic on what size aquarium to get her fish, I helped her out. She asked about a different type of fish but I was going on about telling her what I know about bettas and that with them they should have a minimum of 5 gal. I know not all have that for their fish and are still well taken care of, so this isn't my argument, but the older man ever so rudely interrupts me and says,
"Uhmmm, they don't need no 5 gallons. I keep mine in glass cups and they're totally fine."
Oh boy, you would not believe the rage that was pursing through my blood. It probably wasn't very lady-like of me but I said probably just as rude back,
"Is that humane? Do you truly believe that is how you properly care for ANY tropical fish? That may be alright for a goldfish but not your obviously poorly cared for bettas." And just as I was about to go on, I look and saw a dead betta in it's horrible cup. I picked it up almost to tears and showed him what exactly he's doing to his betta and said, "Yep, you really know what you're doing." And went about my way with the deceased fish to tell someone about him being dead and told them to clean out 2 bettas cups that were filled with allege and ammonia.
I'm at a loss for words with some folks. But I couldn't hold it back today.
