Exclamation I made an impulse buy but I don't have a tank ready! D: help!

I was fully intending to go to Petsmart to get water conditioner and then go next-door to the shoe store because I need sneakers... well, I of course had to look at the bettas while I was in Petsmart and they had this cellophane HMDT that I had noticed last weekend. I felt bad that no one had taken him home yet, and then I noticed how much poo he had in his cup and I knew I had to get him and save him from all that yuckiness (I also noticed two dead ones while I was there. :o/ ).
But the problem is that I haven't fully cleaned out my 1 gallon tank after my snail died a few days ago. I need to know how to clean it so there aren't any harmful traces of snail death! So far I rinsed out the gravel, but it's still in the tank and I haven't *washed* it. How do I wash it? I know soap is out... Can I just use hot water, scrub down the sides and change the gravel??
Also, I just noticed he's kind of swimming on his side once in a while. Is that really bad or will he perk up when he gets in a tank with fresh water?
Thanks!

boiling water should be enough for the gravel. Whenever cleaning my tanks, I tend to use a vinegar solution and hot water. Hope it helps! As for the swimming... might be SBD, but I'm by no means an expert

I have read vinegar mixed with water is good to use to clean the tank and everything with, just be sure and rinse it very well ! I would soak it in that for awhile but if your in a hurry to get the little guy in his tank dont soak and just rinse it off very well and use it, be sure to float him in a bag or the bowl he came in and slowly add the fresh water to the bowl for every 15 mins and do this for about and hour. Good luck !

Thanks, LittleWatty and PersiusMom! I don't have any vinegar at the moment, though! D:

Anyone else who wants to chime in is welcome to also!

Here are some pics:
hmm... his water doesn't look bad in these pics. But it is. It's all on the bottom.

He's cute!

I'll be honest, I have used very very very small amount soap when cleaning my tanks. But I usually use vinegar after that... I really couldn't say what else you could do except using really hot water. Maybe go back to walmart and pick up a little vinegar? XD He'll be ok for a little while if you need to go pick something up.

Pretty Fish! :)
Methylene Blue is used as a preventative for illnesses. It also kinda blocks their true color. :/

Petco or Petsmart. Mine doesn't use it so it varies.
