What do ammonia burns look like on a white betta? Sorry no pics availible on vaca so can't post pics. If I find a way I will.

It strechs from the tip of his mouth to about an inch back. He still swims a lot not resting just swimming

From research I did, I found ammonia burns can start as red streaks or blotches, which can then turn black and splotchy as the skin goes necrotic (dead) - and then may turn grey/white and maybe fuzzy with red, raw flesh under or near it, as opportunistic bacterial infection sets in.

A really detailed description might be a help, since you can't post a pic?

I know i am not suppost to d this but I put still have him in a cup that he came in(petco) I just had to have him and thedidn`t have any bowls(they ran out)

Can't see much in the pics. Aus is right about the description of ammonia burns, but be aware that some bettas also have red streaks naturally. If he's acting normally, just keep an eye on him.

Okay, I am squinting pretty hard at those pics.. and what I think I'm seeing is pinkish skin under clear scales around the betta's head area, with white scales elsewhere on the fish...

If he's not acting ill at all, I would say this is his colouring (I could be wrong, since the pics aren't very clear and you haven't actually described anything..) -- if he had ammonia burns bad enough to take all the scales off his head like that, he'd be one hella sick looking fish by now.

Some of the symptoms of ammonia poisoning can be:

Lethargy
Loss of appetite
Hovering at the bottom of the tank
Gasping at the surface (not just the normal 'sipping' the air for breath, as bettas do)
Inflamed gills
Red streaks or inflammation in the gills and skin
Inflamed eyes or anus

Keep in mind though that new bettas often go off their food and seem to 'sulk' for a few days anyway, while they adjust to the new water chemistry - especially if they aren't acclimated to it slowly.

Sometimeshe hovers at the bottom but I still havehim in the petco cup but he swims lot for the space. I am on vaca and the store ran out of betta bowls
