86 constant temp

is 86 constant temp ok.. my 7.5 watt heater in 2.5 gallpons stays around that

I think that's way too warm for the betta.. My thermometer doesn't even have that in a safe zone (it goes from 60 to 80, but the 70's for betta)

**** i have a 7.5 watt heater in a 2.5 gallon tank and it just sits at 86....

any advice this is stressful

you don't need a heater if the tank is in a good range:) My 2 gallon doesn't have one.

Especially since the heater will probably a. take up too much room or b. over heat the tank.

As Jack said, find out the tank temp without a heater. Mine stays in a 76-80 range without a heater, so its possible yours is in a safe zone without one.

Only if the water temp is too low.

Mine, thanks to the heat in my room, didn't dip below a certain temp so the tank was still in good parameters.
