Phantom stealing food

Phantom is stealing food from my Otos. I've seen him grabbing the algae tablets and swimming off with them and trying to eat them (or eating them). Why is he doing this - he is well fed. Can this hurt him? Is there a way to discourage him from this?

Bettas are opportunistic feeders. In the wild they don't find food everyday, so they're sort of genetically programmed to go after anything edible whenever they come across it.

  1. I would break up the tablets you're feeding the otos and drop them in several locations in the tank.
  2. Feed otos right before you turn off the lights. Otos are usually nite feeders anyway. They like to eat in the dark so they don't end up as food themselves.
