Discolored Plants??

Hi all!

I am new to betta care, and need some advise on taking care of the plants in my tank. I've had my betta for 3 weeks. I decorated the tank and it looks GREAT, and the levels and temp seem to be fine, but the leaves on some of the plants are starting to get discolored/brown, and I was wondering what I need to do to fix this.

Thank you!
Megan

It takes time for plants to settle into their new home.
Some plants won't even survive the new enviroment.
Make sure you're providing enough light for them and fertilize.
What type of plants are we talking about?

^ Agreed

We need to know what lights your using, are you fertilizing, what plants (if you don't know, post pictures) and how long are your lights on?

Anacharis (or Anubias, I don't remember) and Wisteria are the two plants that are turning brown. I've also got a moss ball and peacock fern, and they are doing great.

I only leave the light on (flourescent bulb) for about an hour per day because I have a friend who said that if she leaves her light on too long, she had algea problems. Should I leave the light on longer? The tank gets some sunlight during the day, but not too much. It's on the other side of the room as my window.

Also, what kind of fertilizer do y'all recommend?

you need a much longer photoperiod. Start off with 6-8 hours a day. What size is the tank and how close to the water is the light?

for fertilizer you can start by getting some seachem flourish comprehensive.

Okay, will do. The light is in the tank cover, probably ~3-4 inches above the water?

Also, I have sand in the bottom of the tank and "planted" the plants in that. Is that okay?

the wisteria is fine, if your other plant is anubias then you will need to take it out, they have a rhizome that cant be planted.

You can float it or tie it to something with fishing line or cotton thread.
