Cory's arn't really alga eaters - they eat uneaten food mostly.

A good, small algea eater would be Ottos. They like groups of 4 or more, and they wont harm any fish.

You could probably house any other peaceful community fish with a female better - maybe even 3-5 more females.

A couple of male platies, or Mollies. Make sure they are male or your 10 gallon will be overrun with babies in no time.

I thought about more female Bettas, but I haven't quite made up my mind. I don't really know what fish are peaceful, so could you give specifics please?

Female bettas are a hit and miss. sometimes they get along and sometimes they tear each other apart.

no mollies in a 10g, mollies get quite large.

Small non-nippy tetras could work depending on the bettas personality. If you want algae eaters then 3-4 otos would be a good choice and that IMHO would be your stocklist complete, just make sure they have algae to eat as most won't eat anything else.

I just bought the heater and filter today but I still need to get some fish that can help cycle it. How long does this process take and what fish would be good to do this with and be compatible with my female betta?

I would just cycle it with the female betta.

or do a fishless cycle with ammonia, the fish will appreciate it
