Are you keeping the hornwort in with your bettas? If so, don't even worry about the snails. (still qt the plant though) I have never had any problems with snails in my betta tanks. In fact, one of my guppy tanks got run over by those annoying little pond snails. I put one of my betta girlies in there, literally 3 days later, no snails to be found. I haven't had a problem with them since then.

The hornwort will be with my bettas, yes.
And it's not that I'm afraid of the tank being over run.

I'm afraid of just SEEING them. Knowing they're in the tank is enough to throw me off.

And I just did a water change yesterday, which is confusing. I'd say a 75% change too...

Sorry I should have reworded that, I didnt mean it was good but that is was not to bad and yes any can be harmful and avoided. What conditioner do you use ? Most I have seen detox the ammonia and some like Prime also detoxifies nitrite and nitrate also which is what i use. When I was cycling my 5 gallon no mater how many water changes I did it seems I would always have a reading for ammonia and I checked and there was none in my tap water so I dont why that was. Anyway after a month and half my tank finally cycled and no ammonia.

If the snails are going to freak you out maybe you should not put the Hornwort in or do you have someone who could take the snails out for you if any show up even after you clean and QT it ?

I use API water conditioner.
And my tank should still be in the process of cycling, it's only been 3 weeks, actually, less because my filter was off for about 18 hours at one point and I had to do a 100% water change.

I haven't tested the tap water, but checking that out should help me...

Did u get the Duckweed yet? That will absorb ammonia really well. especially in the smaller unfiltered tank.

Test your tap water.. That's a dangerous level of ammonia.

I didn't get the duckweed yet :<

There was a delay from the UPS on campus, so some packages are a day or two late.

I'm going to test the water now. I'm going to try the bathroom water because thats where I get the water for the tank from.
