To uthinize or no?

My fish blinky is old and not doing well. He's pale he wont eat and hasn't for maybe a week. Its to the point where I am wondering if I should just do him a favor and end his life. He is slowly dying and honestly I am amazed he is still alive he really just sits around either on the bottom or in his hammok.
Should I uthinize and what is the best way to do it?

clove oil is the best non traumatizing ways. You get him in a little cup/jar (I use glass because It's easier to clean) and add a bit of clove oil to the water in the cup with him and they fall asleep and then slowly pass without feeling any pain.

It's a hard decision to make and no one can really make it aside from you. You know his habits, and you know when he just isn't himself anymore. One thing that animals have over humans is a right to a peaceful death.

If you do use clove oil (which is available over the counter at many drug stores) be sure to add a bit of alcohol to the mixture (like a few drops). Clove oil doesn't mix well with water, but a few drops of alcohol (vodka works well for this) will help the mixture be more uniform.

After watching my dog suffer from a burst tumor until we could get her to the vet, I really advocate putting down an animal before they reach the point of intense, constant pain. If his quality of life has diminished significantly, putting him down painlessly now is the humane thing to do.

I dont have clove oil. I hate to do it, but unless their is another option I am just going to let him pass. he is very close and I don't believe he will make it till morning. I dont want him to make it till morning he was a good boy and I know he had a good life I just hate to see him like this, but I know his time is coming I just wish he would give in.
I was watching him he rushes to the top for air, he has such a hard time and then he just falls i feel so sorry for him!

Put him in the cup he came in...just so he doesn't have to struggle to swim up for air...put him in a quiet place...I'm so sorry for you.

You have my condolences. Thank you for giving him a good life and loving him.

I think it is more difficult for those of us who witness the passing, bc modern mainstream culture doesn't really talk about death in healthy ways.
