You don't have to throwit out. There could be something rotting in the decorations with small spaces.

I went to Pet smart today and bought 2 large bags of new gravel..
I cleaned the tank really well and now I'm starting over...
I didn't toss s out the other gravel, Ill boll it and save it to maybe use some later date with a different tank.
Tomorrow morning Ill check the ammonia again and if its still high I'm throwing out the whole 29 gal tank !!!!!!!!! I will have given up !!

Yeah you can double dose it, shouldn't cause any harm anyway.

Don't throw away the tank if ammonia is still high.

This topic have been very interesting for me. I am cycling a new tank - first time - so I am going to tag this thread.

Johanna, what has happened with your tank? Please update your experience.

Thank you,
schell

I lost 5 betas... they were all new from PetSmart.. all females I lost 4 in one day.
I have now started all over... I bought all new gravel. cleaned the tanks.. and I'm testing my water almost every day and doing a water change daily as needed until the cycle is done.
I also think the betas I bought at PetSmart were sick, and that also killed two of the betas I had also. One got pop eye.. ( my favorite Betta) I was heartbroken I lost him.

I am now starting over and watching my tanks and my Bettas like I'm OCD !
And If and when I get any new fish in the future I will keep them in a separate tank until im sure there healthy and not carrying anything.
The ammonia issue is gone now and my tank water in all my tanks are good but I'm also a slave to it for now until the cycling process ends.

Its all very hard because all my Betta's have large tanks.
Two are in a divided 29 gal tank.. one is in his own 29 gal tank.. and two are in a divided 55 gal tank...
and one 20 gal tank ( empty for now) and a 10 gal hospital tank. ( empty)
So as you see I have had a lot of work getting these tanks all cycled and safe.

I am very attached to my Betta and I have only had him for about three weeks. My first one. I am sorry for the loss of yours!! I understand about losing animals you love. I just lost my Service Dog of 12 years, and am deeply grieving. That is how I ended up with my Betta. A friend gave him to me as a gift.

How do you do massive water changes with those large tanks? Do you use a large water tube?
What kind of tanks (brands) are your 29 and 55 gallons? I would love to have tanks that large....since I am so new at this, I thought a 10 gallon was a good start..Then I will progress to larger tanks.
How long have you had Betta's?
