Looks a little to open they prefer a lot of cover and hiding spots nice Betta how big is the tank do not forget the varied diet and stimulation did you have a plant in the filter I take the top off of the filter and add semi-aquatic plants behind the carterage. P.S. I love Marimo too.

I think he has plenty of cover. I am not fond of the buddha statue but the rest is perfect and beautiful, nice job, lucky fish

In the first picture I was wondering about that rock, did you find it too rough for betta fins?

He gets 3 types of food and I do plan on adding some top cover I just have to save up some extra money for the fish budget now..I spent a lot of money on those plants because of the shipping and then I just put together my other tank for goldfish hopefully he will be able to get his top cover plants by the end of the month or the begining of next month :) He is much happier even just having these plants in there, I catch him resting on the leaves and on his marimo balls. Theres 3 anubias and 2 javas plus the moss balls.

I took the rocks out when i noticed his tail shredding like crazy...i havent seen improvement but i also havent seen it getting any worse so perhaps it was causing it, that and the filter intake is my guess, hopefully i see some regrowth soon :)

I have a feeling the java ferns might get too big for the bookshelf tank

If you can get your hands on some frogbit I would grab it! Where I got mine it was pretty cheap...the stuff grows like mad, looks really cool, and the bettas absolutely love it!

Java fern grows pretty slow you could cut the big leaves off and grow new ones.
