Weird red coloring? or is it something else....

Ok I have an adorable veil tail who is brown and clear... his name is rag.

I have noticed that hes starting to get red flecks all over!

It looks like irritated skin, but there should be no reason for that... the only problem with my water is the SUPER high ph of 9+


has anyone else seen this? It kind of looks like broken blood vessels

It could.... be red coloring though... but it looks more like an illness.

My other betta in the divided tank also has red, but its strips and looks like coloring. It is very strange... PLEASE if anyone knows what this is tell me because I am worried about him... He's been alive for 2 years and I want him to stay that way!

9+ pH? Get IAL quickly! Get bottled water and move him here. I don't think fish get irritated skin unless there are parasites. There's no ammonia, so don't change the water.

Okay I did a 50% water change today, but the ph is high because thats just how my well water is.

What is good for lowering ph that wont make it spike back up again?

I've heard peet moss is good, but I don't want it to turn the water yellow

IAL or Bottled water mixed with your well should lower it.
LL- Don' feel bad, you just need to research and study more.

Thanks for the advice! I am hoping it will clear up! unfortunatley I am going on a trip for 3 days its such bad timing, but he will probably be fine!!

Get a piece of natural driftwood (not fake/plastic ones) and/or some Indian Almond Leaves (IAL) or oak leaves from outside (no pesticides) and place them in your tank to lower the pH

Do you think that tanoak leaves will lower it? I dont have any oak trees, but i have lots and lots of tanoaks
