when do I start jarring fry

Hey,

my fry are 5 weeks old today and I can see that some of the ones that look like males are starting to chase some of the others. I have not seen any serious conflict but I could see where it will not be long.

At what age can I start jarring the males??

I jar them when I start to see more serious aggression.

I started jarring when I saw nips taken out of fins and prolonged chasing (meaning not just from one end of the tank to the other). I had to pull my bigger males out at about 6 weeks, so you're coming up on about that time. I was able to leave my smaller males a bit longer until they started growing faster.

Yes, from what I have heard you just need to keep your eye on them and jar if any of the fish are in danger.

Kinda depends. If you want show fins then early. My blacks are mean and they get jarred early, about 8 weeks. Others can go longer, closer to 12 weeks. You can hang soda bottles in the grow out and put males in there to give them benefit of the grow out water volume and that will protect their fins as well as reduce some of the squabbles.
