Is the tank fully cycled? What are your water parameters? how often do you change the water, and how much do you change at a time?

If you overfeed it could be rotting food, or it could be some sort of bacterial bloom caused by overfeeding and/or bad water parameters. Excess light can make bacterial blooms worse as well.

theres this whitish lookin material on the bottom of the tank and floating about in the bettas tank. what is this stuff?

im 100% sure its not bacteria. im thinkin somethin like dead skin or somethin. is this harmful?

its a one gallon tank and and i use a turkey baster to suck out stuff from the bottom and do a 100% water change once every week

Rather than changing 100% of the water, it's much better to change 20-30% of the water 2-3 times a week. Changing 100% of the water allows the tank to dry out and kills off the beneficial bacteria.

Was the tank fully cycled? Do you have water parameters? you will need to know results for amonia, nitrite and nitrate. ph needs to be monitored too, but not necessary to diagnose this problem.

Truly Everyone wants the best for there little fishy buddies..enjoy there beauty as i do to..but i really don't have that much time to suck out all the little stuff at the bottom of there bowls..personally I don't think Bett's should even be in a bowl but I have 5 betta's which makes for a lot of Tanks with proper filtering etc... Very castly hobby! lol

Anyways... I clean out there bowls once the water is not longer transparent put some Betta Bowl Cleaner and away they go..lol I have had 1 male betta for almost 2 years..very big happy fellow and same with My female...which she is very active and waw..has she grown!

to make a long story short...BETTA'S ARE VERY HARDY FISH!
