I love fall but not winter, i have mixed emotions about this lol
I hear you...I spent 45 years living in New England..When I first saw your post, I missed the smell of wood smoke in the air, that crisp, cool feeling, the beautiful colors..then, I thought of the snow...No thanks. I miss the changing of the seasons, but NOT the cold. sigh
Ah, the pleasures of Autumn and later on, Winter. I was born in Minnesota, where the winters last for around half of the year. You have a few weeks of fall and then, wham, winter is in full force. Same with Spring. You have a few weeks of that and then its Summertime and people flock to their lakeside cabins en mass.
Every season to me is as a rare perfume. Spring is so overwhelmingly fragrant with the smell of flowers and new life, summer the smell of grass and the almost nutty smell of the beach and charcoal of cookouts, fall the air is that of wood and rotting leaves a smell often overlooked. Now winter has a truly unusual scent, the air has a clean smell like newly formed ice combine with the human smell of chimneys spouting smoke from fireplaces.
Of all the seasons winter is my favorite but not the deep of winter but nearer the end when it's just changing into spring yet still clings to winter's chill.
What you just wrote sounds almost like a poem. I could see in my mind the crunchy leaves in fall, the flowers in spring and the smell of charcoal and new mown grass in the summer.
