Fin got torn (Again)

Hey guys!

So I went home for the weekend and came back and my betta's fins just got cut everywhere. I don't know if it was because of the ornaments in the tank or he bite himself. It happened before when I was on vacation. There were holes in fins and the next morning I checked again, the fin got torn into 3 different pieces and it scared me. He seems fine, swims and eats. He's in a 1 gallon right now and got treated with AQ salt, 100% WC everyday. It's been 5 days and it doesn't look any better. What should I do ?
Keep changing the water seems to stress him out.

I also have Bettafix but last time a lot of people said I shouldn't use it

Looks like he's biting himself.

Probably doesn't like where you placed that filter in your new tank. The water that shoots out from the filter is most likely the reason he's chewing on his fins.

  • What is the ratio of salt/water?
The reason it doesn't look better is he's still chewing.

Hi MSG, this is the picture of the tank. He never does anything when I'm around though..so I don't know if he actually did it or not.

The ratio is 1/2 tsp/ 1 gal

I would only use the salt for a few days to start with then follow up with clean H2O

  • Damaged fins don't heal overnight, it takes a few days to see some actual fin regrowth, but you have to figure out what's causing him to chew in the first place.
  • I don't like the way the tank is arranged with your filter. Some bettas don't like to hide in little caves. If you notice he's not using them, take the decorations out.

For me to describe what I would do with the tank arrangement & restricting the flow of the filter would take too much time.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

I have to get back to work.

Alrighty I will. He likes the rock ornament so I will keep it in there. How should I put the filter ?

Aqua clear sponges. Tie one over the out flow with some fishing line. As an added bonus, an extra place to collect BB.

Well, he's in his 1 gallon tank right now with no filter and I caught him chewing his tail today. What should I do to help him right now first though ?

So I covered the bottom of my tank with plastic wrap and use a bottle of water to but over the top. Should I put him back in the 5 gal and let him heal himself ?
