How to fix his fins? :(

Hello, so that's Jeremy and there's something wrong with his fins, I did my research on deceases and I don't think he's ill... so can someone tell me what's the problem? ... He lives in an 8g tank, filtered, with heater and live plants... I also use conditioner and do 50% weekly water changes and 100% monthly.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hmm....besides a tad bit of harmless curling, I don't see anything really wrong with his fins at all in this picture. If you're worried about the blackish edges, it looks as if thats just part of his coloring.
I'd say you have no need to worry. ;) He looks fine to me.

Just a little tip though.....there should be no need for a 100% water change in a filtered tank of that size....all that does is kill off most of your beneficial bacteria and crash whatever cycle you've established. Once your tank has established a cycle, unless you need to break your tank down to move it or for some other emergency, 30%-50% weekly water changes with a gravel vac should be all you need. ;)

Okay, thanks a lot. So do you have any idea what could have caused the curling?

Its usually caused by hard water. As far as I understand, there isn't too much to do about it....maybe start adding some IAL to his water....but its also not harmful.

Good, I'm glad it's nothing to worry about, so what is IAL?

Indian Almond Leaves. ;) All kinds of beneficial properties to them and the tannins they release help to safely soften the water up a little bit.

I've heard you can use certain Oak leaves too, but I never looked too much into those.
You can order IALs online. Not entirely sure where ALL they sell them, but I know they can be found on Aquabid.com and on Ebay.

Until it looks like hes starting to break down, I believe. I'm not entirely sure how long that tanks, I think it depends. Some people I've heard just make IAL 'tea' even and add that to the tank rather then the actual leaf itself.
I've personally never used IALs, but I know many people on the forum have and do and love them. I've seen a couple of threads pop up on them if you want some more experienced information, you could do a little forum search. ;)
