My first Betta

Well, I decided to get my first Betta today. He's a gorgeous little guy that I absolutely love looking at.





I've been browsing on here and seen quite a few other peoples pale bettas become different colors when they start out looking like mine. How normal is this?

Bettas often change colors if they carry the marble gene, or some bettas color up once they are placed in a warm clean environment.

Oh, the color changing is very normal....its commonly refereed to as 'Marbling'. Paler bettas with little sports of color like yours, or sometimes even with no visible spots of color, often gain more color and change over time. Its a color gene variation.....like dragon scaling, as far as I understand at least. ;)
They can be quite fun. xD Some change so drastically they don't even look like the same fish after several months!

Beautiful betta! What is his name? He looks very etheral. I am not sure why other pale bettas might change color. I have only had colored bettas. I believe some food can enhance colors, but that is only a guess. Others on this board might have a more educated response.

He doesn't have a name yet. I'm still trying to think of a good one. I've only had him for a few hours. Any name suggestions would be lovely as well. :D

I made sure it had very soft edges (ran it over pantyhose and nothing snagged). I'll probably be getting a different plant here soon though. I just don't like the look of that one much with the rest of the tank.
