First Rescue...questions/pics :)

Purchased today: This is my first rescue. Im not into rescueing much because I dont have the space or time but I really liked this guys personality and thought it would be nice to give a needy betta a good home :)

tank size: 2.5 gal
heater: 7.5w betta heater
filter: no
AQ salt: no
conditioner: simple betta conditioner from petco
water: country tap from artesian well
plants: not yet
decor: 2 rocks and a terracota pot
substrate: no
medication: no

Asside from being mildly underweight, clamped fins, fade and stress lines he seems fine.

-how many water changes and what percentage should I change? (not a cycled tank)
-does he need meds/aq salt?
-I have omega one and aqueon betta pellets, how often should I feed and how much?
-what causes fade/stress lines and clamped fins?

Concern: he keeps laying on his heater! will he get burned? I cant really take the heater out, it gets cold here.

If he lives long term I will deffinitely update his tank as time goes on, plants, substrate, filter et..I just want to get him better first before I invest plus it will be easier to keep clean without all the extras.

awwww, he doesn't look too bad, super long ventrals!

-does he need meds/aq salt? I'd say some salt, maybe a teaspoon per gallon?
-I have omega one and aqueon betta pellets, how often should I feed and how much? 3 or 4 in am repeat in pm
-what causes fade/stress lines and clamped fins? stress?

-how many water changes and what percentage should I change? (not a cycled tank) not sure when salt is added, sorry!

It is :) ...My local petco usually sells very healthy bettas, id say out of 100 that they stock usually only about 10 of the veil tails appear to have clamped tails on a general basis. On thursday they got a new shipment in and had about 40 sick/ill/skinny ones nearly entirely faded out! I dont understand why a breeder would sell such awful looking betta's, I dont see them selling quickly anytime soon at the petstore so I kind of couldnt help getting this little guy because he had such an awesome personality. I hope my petco doesnt buy from that breeder again!

Good job with the rescue!

Did you get a discount or freebie?

Could you leave some feedback for them on their website or talk to a manager?

That would help them make useful choices in the future.

Ya they already know, they were really disapointed with this new shipment, their manager doesnt allow discounts or freebies but theyre trying to stock them out front where they might sell faster and keeping the fancy ones on the back shelf for now. Its not a normal thing for out petco and they dont normally order this many VT's. If I see them restock like that again, at that time i will write to them, but for now, as far as I gather from speaking with them the day I bought him they already know that this wasnt a good shipment and werent impressed.

Anyone know what percentage and how often water change should be performed when AQ salt is added? (not a filtered tank)

Should be 100% of water every day. Since it looks like you have a pretty big tank I suggest moving him to a smaller setup, I recommend 1 gallon. They are easy to heat and easy to change the water every day.

He's a pretty one, good luck!
