Mystery Problem

Pudge has changed since yesterday, and it's confusing me. His tail is held out more, so he looks a lot better than he used to. He's currently on day 2 of his AQ salt treatment. He's been going through finbiting, or tht's what I've been thinking. I'm noticing there are holes in his fins, not just the tears and chunks missing at the end.

Also, he's not flaring. It looks like he CAN'T.

His gills move as if he's going to puff out, but he doesn't. No matter how badly he looks like he's try, he can't.
His tail even flares out, but he CAN'T flare.

Is there something else going on wrong here?

Also, I'm about to do a tank cleaning because the tank has gone cloudy from something I put in the water. Is there any advice I should use before doing so?

1. Pudge might not be tail biting he could be snaggin his tail on plants. USUALLY silk plants are okay. DO the panty hose test and if it snags on pantyhose it snags their fins. Plastic plants usually snag.

2. Pictures help so u might want to post some.

3. some bettas dont flare. my female flares at almost everything but my male hasnt flared ...well not until my female got on his side of the tank then i saw a nice black beard. But he doesnt flare. hed rather just swim through anubus.

So dont worry.

4. Make sure the salt is the right amount per ur gallons. use to much and it gets cloudy.

5. Pleassee take pics they really do help out alot.

I was thinking it was fin biting because the fins grew and I've seen him biting them a few times.

As for flaring, e used to ALWAYS flare. He'd flare every day for long increments at a time. Eventually, he just completely stopped, and even if there's another betta right next to him, he looks like he''s going to flare, but can't...

J..is he haveing problems breathing, or just flaring, get him out of that water asap..then let him rest at a lower water level to make sure he can reach the surface, and check the therm..for temp..lemme know how he does after w/c:)

Oh no, he can breathe! :)
He just can't seem to puff his gills out... it's like Squirt's problem with being able to fluff out one gill properly.

But as of right now, I don't have a tank to put him in o.o
The plants are currently soaking in my hospital tank.

any tupperware containers that you have, or can borrow??

Or can you take out the plants for a lil bit, and use that one?? I would, you can do it quickly..and get the plants back in..they will be fine..

I can take the plants out and put them in the tupperware, and then put Pudge in the tank.

The tupperware is small so I have a feeling he'd be very upset in it :/
