Some interesting products , Alder cones and purigen :)

I've just gotten to know some local aquarists. And I've looked up some of their recommended products. Anyone ever used either of these?
Alder cones are like IAL...
Purigen is a product by seachem that does wonders clearing up your water. apparently 1000 times (I may have exaggerated a bit...) better than activated carbon... and rechargeable.. :)

I have used purigen but you really only need to use it if you need to take something out of the water, such as medications. Same with carbon. Otherwise it doesnt need to be used all the time.

I have used purigen, and I think it works great when you need it, otherwise the space it takes up in a filter is better served by adding more bio media to the chemical basket in place of carbon or anything else, UNLESS you have a specific need for chemical filtration for some reason (tannins, medication, etc).

My local aquarists primarily keep shrimp :) mostly the rather delicate ones. So I guess they run it in their filters to keep the water pristine

I run purigen in my shrimp tank.

The NYC crowd seems really cool, lots of landed tank and shrimpaholics!

Down here it's military guys obsessed with cichlids.
