ugh, no more double tails for me!

I seriously have to stay away from the beautiful flowing double tails...they always tear! It so frustrating because it looks awful and I worry about developing rot at the tear site et. Anyone have this problem often or is it just me, perhaps im doing something wrong? Its even more frustrating when there is no filter in his side of the tank, no decor and all real plants. It must be from flaring so often. My other double tail looks like hes been through a shredder, all the little tips are a wreck :/ ...grrr!

Fin nippers do it because the lack stimulation. Also check every decoration with something like nylon.

He may need something to hide in, give him a tiny plant pot or some sort of cave that he can go into. Also check your gravel to see if it's sharp enough that it's shredding the tail. Normally this shouldn't be a problem. I mean my betta slit his tail a little but it was totally my fault for keeping him in a tank with plastic plants.

He could be flaring at the fish next door a lot too. Try to block him from view more.

my DTs were never that great with fin tears. the DTHM wasnt that bad. the remaining DT i have has fin recovery that leaves alot to be desired. he was the worst one while i didnt regulate the IAL water i put in the tank with WCs. fluctuating PH doesnt help that out at all. he's doing much better but alot of fin area needs to grow back. the DeT has some issues as well due to huge fins. i dont want to guess how it'll go in the future for the DeT.

Double Tails

My last betta that passed was a double tail and he tore his tail and then got a severe case of fin ron I had plastic plants and an arch decoration that didn't have super smooth edges that I think had something to do with it. I switched the plastic plants for silk and a different decoration. I also think the strong current from the filter didn't help, but I have modified it since. Hope I have betta luck (haha ) this next time around with my baby I just acquired!
