People are so uneducated. My mom (whom I do not live with so she's no threat) told me I should flush my fish (alive) because he was biting his own tail. When I told her no, I was going to try to treat it and make it so he didn't get sick from it she goes "Well, maybe he's so stressed. Those fish live in tiny puddles in the wild you know." I almost smacked her through the phone.

That is terrible puddle myth and wanted a fish flushed. When I asked my mom when I left for collage what will i do with my fish. When I said my cories average 10 years with 27 the record. She said flush them I told her it is a terrible death for the fish and what if it made it to a pond which it would not. I consider buying a pet a contract of always finding the best care possible. Glad you Betta recovered.

Why did the word myth turn red?

betta myths are so prevalent, especially right now, because they're quickly becoming the "hot trend pet" these days. so many people are buying them, but so few are doing it for an actual love of fish, but because their Paris Hiltonesque purse-dogs are no longer chic. they concoct myths about bettas preferring awful conditions so they can feel better about their substandard care, and as they tell other people their "facts" those people go out and plan their betta homes based on incorrect information they heard from their trendy friend.

Yeah and when good info comes they say but the pet store said this or my fish lived blank years in a bowl.

Someone told me at the pet store today when I went to go pick up a better heater that Bettas like dirty water conditions because they eat algae off the sides of their tank. I kindly tried to tell this petco employee that no, that's not true and bettas prefer clean water and a large tank, but they didn't listen to me and bought one of those dinky little "betta tanks" and algae pellets for their fish. I felt so bad for the little guy. (also noticed they didn't buy water conditioner)

I remember when i put down my fish with clove oil. my family thought it was a waste of time and flushing was just as good.
But its okay my tears put them through enough hell.

I hate people that are misinformed OR think they know everything.

As for the size of a betta tank i want to tell someone okay u go live in a closet. and u have to poop eat and sqim in that one spot. oh also theres a random chance it might get cleaned. lets see how long u last. >:D

Its just super stupid all the people. This is why i want to work at a pet store in the fish section so i can help ignorant people and make parents pay for giving in to there kid for a fish they think will just last a few months.

Im kinda mean when it comes to protecting my fish.
