Yeah Bettas can and have jump out of their tanks so be sure that you have a cover for your guy's home. Plus it helps to lower the water level a tad bit.

They can nip! But it doesn't hurt at all...I actually think it's really cute.

My betta has never bitten me but he likes to rub against my hand and fingers. My old betta from when I was a kid bit me once though but it didn't hurt. In fact I didn't fully realize he had bitten me. I thought he bumped into my hand.

It's always a good idea to cover the tank.
