lighting?

ive decided on doing a planted tank in this 5.5gal:

http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...26amp%3B+Bowls

i know nothing about plants and their light needs, im just trying to do some easy stem plants and like a moss ball. so if anyone has this tank, is the lighting sufficient? and if not, what should i use instead?

I have that same tank from Wal Mart (cheaper at WM). I replaced the regular bulb with this: http://www.petco.com/product/111943/...3-_-image_link

Replace the bulb first of all, the one linked is a good bulb to buy. I haven't had that particular tank so I can't comment on how good everything is.

I would go with sand over gravel as it is really good for planting and promotes good root growth. I would just buy a 50lb bag of play sand at Home Depot or Lowe's, that would only run you like $5 and you can keep it for other tanks or do a project with it. It's found in the isle with the concrete mix and all that.

I have two of those thank myself, both planted. One has gravel and the other is sand. I got Florite(sp?) from Petsmart and a 50lbs bag of sand from Home Depot. I got my 6500k lights from Walmart for just a few dollars (not sure about the watts).
