Question about pet store decoration

My fish Malcom LOVES this decoration. he's constantly around it, laying on top, curling up in the cave portion and he just won't leave it alone. If fish had human like emotions, I think he would be having a love affair for this decoration. The issue is, the paint on the mermaid's face is bubbling. It hasn't cracked or chipped off yet, but the bubbling of the face is making me extremely nervous.

This is what it started out looking like

and this is what it looks like now

(Of course Mal had to be the showoff that he is as soon as the phone came out)

Here's a close up of the face where it's the worst.

I would call the manufacturer and ask questions and also to make sure it's safe to keep it in your tank.

I might just take it back and get him something else. I already removed it from the tank right after taking the pictures just in case.

that's a topfin ornament I'm wagering. I've had the same thing happen. It's a shame, my boy seemed to really like his decor too. It's the unfortunate result of cheap and poor manufacture.

It is indeed. I've been keeping it in old tank water in a bucket, and it hasn't chipped or bubbled anymore. They wouldn't take it back so i'm trying to decide what to do with it.

Yeah those pics were disturbing. Good thinking about taking it out. Oh Wow that is a bummer they would not take it back. They did sell faulty aquarium decor. Well I hope you can find some use for it.

I have the same exact problem with mine except its the chubby cherry wood colord buddha but my paint chipped horribly i had the idea of having my dad sand blast just the outer paint off so its down to the resin t may be just pure white but h freaking loves that thing! Whats are your oppinions about this idea? I dont think the resin would be harmful do you?

I would do research on it, but make sure to use non toxic paint and seal it with some kind of non toxic sealant.
