RIP Nameless Rescue.

Today I went to Petco to pick up a new heater for my ten gallon tank and I just had to look at the bettas. It's become an obsession for me. I was happy to see every single cup was clean and there were only two fish that were in bad condition. One had swim bladder disease, but a kind family came in and let me give him advice on what to feed him (NOT PEAS) and I had a good feeling that they were going to take good care of the little guy. The other fish was in more desperate condition, so I took him up to the manager and he let me take him home for free.

I acclimated him to my hospital tank and put in some epsom salt, stress coat, and medication to treat his internal parasites. My hospital tank is a one gallon critter keeper and it only had about three inches of water as he was having a lot of trouble swimming up to get some air.

The poor guy only lasted four hours after being put in the hospital tank. I feel so sorry for the little guy as I didn't even have a name for him. I wish he went relatively painlessly, and I knew it was hopeless when I brought him home, but I had to try, you know?

This is what the poor guy looked like when I brought him home. I am pretty sure he drowned because he was just too weak to reach the surface to breathe. So here I am, feeling guilty and wishing there was more I could have done for him.

That is so sad. look on the good side,he's in betta heaven right now. Imagine him swimming in a 100 gallon tank all by himself and getting endless bloodworms. Maybe that will make you feel better. You can email me whenever you want and I'll reply as soon as I can.

Don't feel bad for him, you did him a great dead. He passed with a home to call his own. A home that was warm and clean. I am sorry for your loss, i know how it is.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I can't stand to see any animal in pain *cough* that's how i ended up with four dogs and four cats...*cough cough* so i just had to take him home. He got a nice burial in the vegetable garden and he's in a better place.

I'm sure your betta appreciated spending his last few hours in a loving home with someone who cared rather than being in a cup in a pet store.

Sometimes the needs of the one out weigh the needs of the many.

God bless you for trying.
