Calvin is my VT in my 20 gallon community tank. He is not aggressive towards everyone else, and everyone else ignores him. I feed everyone a mixture of bloodworms/brine shrimp/ and spirulina algae. However, the bettas all get hand fed either blood worms or pellets. So, he swam to the top, per usual, and I hand fed him a worm. By that I mean, I poke one end of the frozen (but thawed) worm into the water and hold onto the other side. Its like a bonding experience, and it prevents food on the bottom. I'm holding onto one side, and he goes to grab the end of it. I didn't think he got it at first so I pulled it out of the water to adjust it, and I accidentally pulled Calvin out with it!!!! He was holding on so tight, I was able to pull him out!!!!! So then, that startled the crap out of him, so he threw up the previous blood worm and was just looking at me like... WHAT. THE. HECK. And of course I was apologizing and talking to him in a baby voice, I felt so bad!
So I tried to hand feed him again. He is WAY too trusting. So I dipped the end of the worm in and he grabbed it, but another worm was stuck to it and it fell off. Calvin, being the piggly he is, has half a worm hanging out of his mouth, and is peering out of the corner of his eye, following the other worm that is floating down. I just about died. He really put on a show tonight :P
