Marina Slim 10 Filter.....any users???

Hi Everyone,

Now that I learned how to cycle new media/filter in a spare tank....I'd like to get my spare set up and get this process started.

My tank came with the Marina Slim 10 filter which uses 2 cartridges. 1 of the cartridges says is good for gold fish and the other for tropical fish. Does that mean I should only use 1 of the 2 cartridges?

Both cartridges are fleece style filled with a mixture of filtration media inside. both contain a product called Ceramitek for "optimizing bio filtration" according to Hagen's website.

So....in setting up this filter for use on a 5 gallon betta tank, should I use thetropical fish cartridge and insert a peice of aquarium foam where the second cartridge would go??

I ditched both cartridges and added foam to 1 side, a custom media in the middle and biostars in the chamber where the water comes in. You could use 2 sponge filters if you like. I use this in a goldfish tank and I believe it took less than 2 weeks to see nitrates.

Either way is fine. Easiest to use what you have. Use as much media as you can.
