The spots are normal. Don't worry. He's a bi-color so that's normal.

It looks as though he's marbling. My fish has similar markings and is changing color now. I wouldn't be worried about it.

I'm wondering if his ventral fin will stay bent or if it'll heal straight and how long it'll take to heal (if it does).

Do tou know the hardness of your water? That can cause bent/curled fins. It shouldn't affect his swimming. My fish has curled ventrals and he's the most active fish i've ever seen.
