Betta compatible?

I've thought about getting a 5 gallon tank (right now I have a one gallon which is much better than the small bowl I had for my old one. Poor college kid and all) and putting my betta in with some ghost shrimp, a snail, or an algae eater, you know, the kind that sticks to the glass? I've heard the first two are usually ok but I really like algae eaters. Would one be okay with the betta?

they would be ok with a pleco or a few otos...just make sure that you dont get a big variety and that they have enough room.

No pleco could fit in a 5G. Even the dwarfs such as the Clown pleco get too big.

I would say to add 2-3 Otos. Make sure you have algea, as some wont eat anything else.

hmm i wouldnt advise a male and female betta together, i think choose the male or the female and not both

You can't put the male and female together unless they are breeding, and that's only during the breeding process.

Sometimes you can have multiple females in a tank. Depends on their personality and if you've enough room and hiding spaces, plants, etc.

Snails may or may not work with bettas. Again, it depends on the betta's personality. Some will ignore the snail. Some will try and eat the tentacles since they look like little worms. My betta kept my snail pinned down in the corner and I had to rehome the snail. Failed experiment. Though now I have two 5 gallon tanks, one for each!

just get a betta and a snail. if u put oto in their without a sufficient source of algae they slowly starve. A pleco would do much worse.

Not in a 5g unfortunatey. Depending on species of tetra a 10g would be the minimum, maybe more. for danios a 20g would be minimum.

I would go for a snail, or some shrimp.

your right. especially since both are schooling fish.

why do danios need a 20G?
